YANGON INVESTMENT FORUM 2018 HELD IN YANGON

With the guidance of Yangon Region Government and Yangon Region Investment Committee, Yangon Investment Forum 2018 was held at Novotel Yangon Max Hotel on 9th May 2018 in collaboration with Directorate of Investment and Company Administration. The forum was mainly sponsored by Myanmar Investor Development Association (MIDA) and co-sponsored by the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), German Cooperation through GIZ, PwC Myanmar.

U Kyaw Win, Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission and Union Minister of Ministry of Planning and Finance, and U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region Government and Chairman of Yangon Region Investment Committee, members of the Yangon Region Government, distinguished guests, governmental officials from related Ministries, totally over 1200 people attended the forum.

In the morning session of the Forum, U Kyaw Win, Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission and Union Minister of Ministry of  Planning and Finance, and U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region Government and Chairman of Yangon Region Investment Committee, delivered opening remarks and followed by video presentation of the Yangon Region Government. After that, Chairman for Myanmar Investors Development Association (MIDA) and Head of Cooperation, German Embassy Dr. Kathrina Spiess delivered remarks respectively.

Then, Mr. Chao Choon Ong, Deputy Managing Partner, PwC Myanmar Managing Director made a presentation about Doing Business in Yangon. Likewise, Dr. Marlar Myo Nyunt, Deputy Director General from Directorate of Investment and Company Administration, Ministry of Planning and Finance presented about current investment situation in Yangon.

Moreover, the Panel Session on the Investment Framework in Myanmar was discussed by , U Aung Naing Oo, Director General of Directorate of Investment and Company Administration, Ministry of Planning and Finance, U Htay Chun, member of Securities and Exchange Commission of Myanmar, Daw Mya Mya Oo, Deputy Director General of Internal Revenue Department, Ministry of Planning and Finance, U Than, Joint Secretary of Yangon City Development Committee, Mr. Peter Brimble, Team Leader of DFID /UK Aid, DaNa Facility and Mr. Jovi Seet, Senior Executive Director of PwC Singapore took a responsibility for a  Facilitator.

The afternoon session was started with the video presentation U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region Government and Chairman of Yangon Region Investment Committee on the title of Investment Strategy in the Yangon Region.

After that, Private Sector Projects in Yangon Session was started. At the session, Daw Cho Cho Wynn, Vice-Chairman of Thilawa Special Economic Zone Management Committee presented about the experience and challenges of the establishment of the Thilawa Special Economic Zone. Additionally, U Kaung Htet Tun, Executive Director of KMA Group of Companies, made a presentation on the MIDA Projects and MIDA, and Daw Hnin Htet Aung, Investment Facilitator explained about Yangon City Project (High-rise) and MIDA, and U Aung Lwin Thant Investment Facilitator, also discussed on the ZaYetkwin Garden Industrial Park and Yangon City Light Industrial Park.

After coffee break, the Panel Discussion on Private Sector’s Perspectives Focusing on Agriculture, Energy & Electricity, Logistics, Tourism, Textile & Garment, Banking Sectors was held with the participation of U Aye Lwin, Member of the Myanmar Investment Commission and NLD Central Economic Committee, U Aung Zaw Naing, CEC for UMFCCI, Daw Kim Chawsu, Head of Finance and Operation for New Yangon Development Co., Ltd, U Kyaw Kyaw Hlaing, Chairman for Myanmar Oil & Gas Services Society, Mr. Sukhdeep Singh, Chairman for the FDI Hotels and Daw Khine Khine Nwe, Secretary for Myanmar Garment Manufacturer Association. At the session, U Ye Min Aung, Vice- President of UMFCCI played as a Facilitator.

Yangon Region Government, Ministry of the Planning and Finance, Minister U Myint Thaung expressed thankful remark and the Forum successfully finished at 17:00 pm. After finishing the Forum, all distinguished guests joined the Networking Dinner hosted by MIDA.
