PUBLIC-PRIVATE DIALOGUE ON TOURISM INVESTMENT

Promoting investment in sustainable tourism was the focus of a Public-Private Dialogue workshop jointly organized by the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) and German Cooperative Agency (GIZ) in Taunggyi, Shan State, on 29th June, 2017.

U Soe Nyunt Lwin, Minister of Planning and Finance for Shan State, gave the opening address at the workshop and U Aung Naing Oo, Director General of DICA; U Aung San Win, Chairperson of Southern Shan State Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Mr Thomas Schneider, Chief Advisor of GIZ, also give opening remarks.

Dr Malar Myo Nyunt, Director of DICA, gave a presentation on the Shan State Investment Opportunity Survey Report for the hotel and tourism sector that was published in 2017.

The 70 delegates attending the workshop discussed a diverse range of tourism-related matters including a Public-Private Dialogue approach to tourism development, the legal and policy framework for investment in sustainable tourism, and administrative procedures and operational processes relating to tourism.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks from Dr Marlar Myo Nyunt.
