A new Socio-Economic Atlas of Myanmar will help business people make informed choices about investing in Myanmar, U Thant Sin Lwin, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) said today.
Speaking at the launch of the Atlas, U Thant Sin Lwin, said the researchers had "documented the current transformation process of Myanmar that can create investment opportunities in Myanmar".
"This Socio-Economic Atlas focuses on the analysis and evaluation of regional differences in geographical conditions, natural resources, and infrastructure, in particular, the socio-economic development in the states and regions of the country in the current transformation process of Myanmar," he said.
"I hope that the report will provide useful information for international investors to understand the real situation of our country. We do believe this publication will appeal to the international media and focus attention on the investment potential of Myanmar.
"Consequently, I would believe that this publication is an important input to decision-making by potential investors, both foreign and local, in Myanmar.
"Accurate and updated information is vital to informed decision-making and the Socio-Economic Atlas of Myanmar provides comprehensive knowledge about Myanmar to investors."
U Thant Sin Lwin and Ms Katharina Spiess, Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, delivered opening remarks at the launch of the Atlas at the Sedona Hotel today.
Daw Aye AyeMyint, Deputy Director General of Department of Urban and Housing Development, Ministry of Construction and Ms Irina Scheffmann, Head of GIZ programmeStrengthening Capacities of the Private Sector provided background to the research and production of theAtlas.
To promote investment and provide useful information to potential investors, the Socio-Economic Atlas of Myanmar features social and economic related information on such areas as geography, population, climate, education, health, telecommunication, and transportation supported by maps and brief descriptions.
GIZ supported the development of the Socio-Economic Atlas of Myanmar in cooperation with DICA, the University of Cologne in Germany, Yangon University, Ministry of Construction, Myanmar German Research Cooperation for Urban and Regional Development and Centre of Excellence for Urban and Regional Development.
