Malaysia-Myanmar Connect 2019 holds in Yangon

Malaysia-Myanmar Connect 2019 with Seminar, Business Matching and Exhibition are designed to promote the private sector investment and the linkage between local businesses and potential local and foreign investors was held at the Wyndham Grand Yangon Hotel, Yangon on 30th August, 2019. It was jointly organized by the Malaysia-Myanmar Business Chamber (MMBC), the Embassy of Malaysia and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER) of Myanmar.

According to agenda, Mr. Gilbert Lee, President for the Malaysia-Myanmar Business Chamber (MMBC) delivered the Opening Speech and H.E. Mr. Zahairi  Baharim, Ambassador for the Embassy of Malaysia to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar delivered the Welcome Remarks respectively. After that, U Thaung Tun,  Union Minister for Ministry of  Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission conveyed his best wishes for the success of the event through a video message.

Subsequently, Mr. Hans Anand Beck, Lead Economist of World Bank  made a  presentation on “Myanmar Economy” and also U Min Ye Paing Hein, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Industry, member of National Economic Coordination Committee made a presentation on “Information and Discussion on Project Bank”.

In the afternoon session, U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region Government delivered a speech for “ Investment Opportunities in Yangon Region”.  The Investment  Opportunities for the Sector on “ Construction & Property”, “Manufacturing”, “IT” and “Trading & Services” by the government officials are conversed as per agenda.  In addition, the government Officials and experts from the private sector to participate in a panel discussion conducted.

        The Malaysia-Myanmar Connect 2019 was attended by over 300 participants notably U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region, U Min Ye Paing Hein, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Industry, member of National Economic Coordination Committee, government  officials,  ambassadors  from  foreign embassies in Myanmar, authorities from the Malaysia-Myanmar Business Chamber (MMBC), foreign   investors,   local   investors,   business-related   associations and media representatives.

The business session between foreign and local investors was also held at the same venue and discussed future cooperation. Malaysia-Myanmar Connect 2019 could be bring the interest of Malaysia potential investors to invest in Myanmar and lead to understand the unique investment opportunities in Myanmar.
