U Thaung Tun attends Singapore Summit 2019

A Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC), U Thaung Tun, attended the Singapore Summit 2019 from 20 – 21 September.

The Summit, organised by the Temasek Foundation – with the support of the Singapore Economic Development Board, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the GIC Private Limited, was held with the aim of discussing global trends in business, finance, and geopolitics, and their impact on regional and global growth. The summit provided an opportunity for senior government officials and business leaders from around the world to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities presented by the fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Summit was attended by over 650 participants.

The opening session, held on 21 September, was addressed by the Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, HE Mr Heng Swee Keat.

The Union Minister participated in the Policy Dialogue. The Minister highlighted the opportunities and challenges of global trends, the pivotal role of ASEAN in the regional economic scene, the free flow of technology and trade within Asia and the rest of the world. He emphasised the importance of research and development, and technological innovation. He affirmed that Myanmar would continue to strive to achieve continued sustainable development of the country.

While in Singapore, the Union Minister had separate meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, HE Mr Heng Swee Keat, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. During these meetings, he discussed matters relating to strengthening investment and economic ties between Singapore and Myanmar.

The Union Minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Planning and Finance, U Set Aung, and Director from the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, U Soe Myint Aung.

The Union Minister and the Myanmar delegation arrived back in Yangon on 22 September 2019.
